About Us Page: Self Intro

-My name is Daniel Hankins and I am the voice behind this website (sorry it isn't very mobile friendly, due to all of the pictures). I, like most humans, try and pretend like I know what is going on at all times. This website is a great tool to help me make you think I have a wealth of knowledge, but I am reminded constantly how little I know, compared to all the information that exists. I am lucky enough to have reached the stage of acceptance to the fact that I will never know everything, and that has helped shape who I think I am.

-One day, on a road trip with my wife and a couple of our friends, we were playing a game of “Would you Rather”. One of the questions that came up was; Would you rather know 100% of one subject, or would you rather know 10% of every subject? It was a fun debate, especially when considering the inclusion of subjects we don’t even know exist yet. I was surprised that I was the only one who voted for 10% of every subject, but it got me thinking about my meaning of life (for lack of a better explanation). In my mind an ideal life would let me work towards becoming above average at as many different subjects as I could, instead of spending my whole life working towards perfection at one craft. I am not entirely convinced that there is a career that it is possible to obtain 100% mastery, so I would never get the satisfaction of completion. If my goals are to get to 10%-50% mastery (or at least above average), then I think getting fulfillment out of life will be much easier, and it will come more frequently. Plus the idea of a lifetime of newness, versus the never ending grind of perfection, sounds way better.

-My wife informs me that I am excitable, obsessive, and I talk too much. In my head, I hear that I am passionate, organized, and curious.

-To satiate my curious side I try and write down any thoughts I find interesting. I basically created a diary of unfiltered thoughts and lessons from my day to day life. Sometimes I enjoy sharing these thoughts to get other perspectives and to help influence my understanding of the world around me. I tend to see butterflies and rainbows, but other people's perspectives help me see some of the thunderstorms that exist too. As an experiment I am going to try and publish this thought journal every time I update the website. Feel free to contact me and add your perspective and thoughts, or if you want to hear more about my thoughts. My hope is that this will not only help me grow, but maybe I can help someone else grow too (needs better wording). That being said, these are stream of consciousness thoughts, and not always well researched opinions, so lets be a good community and remember my goal is to learn and become a better fellow human being.
