Uncle Tom's Cabin - Character Analysis

Uncle Tom:

*Caring for everyone: Pg. 37 he would rather be sold then have everyone else on the plantation sold.

*He is faithful to Christ: Pg. 359 he is presented with the perfect opportunity to kill his master and escape, but he won’t do it because it is evil

*Faithful to Christ: Pg. 394 he can escape but he would rather stay and spread the word of God.

*Caring: Pg 410 he says he would do anything to help the master live and not die, even though the master was horrible, and even after he beat him, Tom forgave him


Simon Legree:

*Evil man with no respect towards slaves: pg 336 he takes Tom’s belongings and throws them over board.

*Thinks he is supreme ruler: Pg. 356 claims that Tom owes him his entire mind, body, and soul because he gave another man some money.

*Won’t let anyone stand to be better then he is: Pg. 410 he beats Tom because he helps the other slaves and is always happy.

*Superstitious: 400 he is afraid of his attic because he thinks it is haunted.


Eva St. Clare

*Doesn’t judge off color: 146 she befriends Tom on a slave ship and buys him from the trader.

*Caring: pg 220 she is the first person to love Topsy and to get Ophelia to love Topsy.

*Caring: pg 195 she gets Henrique to be nice to his slaves.

*Inspirational: pg 235 she gives everyone locks of her hair and instructs them to show love to everyone around them and everyone is in tears.


Topsy

*Mischievous: pg 217 none of the slaves like her because she steals.

*Mischievous: pg 218 every person that expresses their dislike of Topsy tends to have some sort of accident.

*Wants to be loved: pg 220 she tells Eva the reason she is rotten is because no one has ever loved her.

*Compassionate: pg 235 when Eva dies she is completely torn apart because she lost love out of her life and afterwards she kept he lock of hair.
